Robert Byrd Breyer is the oldest grandson of Admiral Richard E. Byrd. Bob grew up in Los Angeles where he was an Eagle Scout and earned B.S. and MBA degrees from USC. He has hiked, camped, and climbed from Switzerland to New Zealand and many places in between. During the 1973-34 austral summer season, Bob followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and worked in Antarctica on the construction of Dome South Pole Science Station. The next season he was promoted to South Pole Construction Camp Manager. He returned to Antarctica at the invitation of the National Science Foundation in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his grandfather’s flight to the South Pole.

Bob currently produces PowerPoints, videos, and websites about the polar regions for educational purposes and serves on the Board of Governors of the American Polar Society.
